What’s typical mileage on a hhr before engine failure? Do most even make it to 200,000 plus?

Im curious too
I got 232,000 on mine 2.2 still runs like a top…
mostly depends on how it’s maintained
Also depends on what you call “make it”. I’ve seen some people complain when they need to do maintenance and rant about unreliability. If you’re wanting 200k without some maintenance and maybe a minor repair or two, then perhaps not.
I don’t think most cars make it to 200K. My is 240.5K but it is unusual.
It depends how it was taken care of. My 2006 Toyota Camry v6 went to 300k. I sold it and the guy who owns it now still drives it. I have an isuzu trooper with over 200k and I’ve never replaced anything big. I also had a 2007 Hyundai sonata V6 with 190k miles and sold it. It’s a daily driver to someone
Exactly. At some point the car is no longer worth fixing. A relatively minor fender bender can total it. This in, most cases, happens long before it reaches 200K. It doesn’t mean the car is not capable of making it that far, only that circumstances preclude it.
07, 2.2, 226K auto. highway 28+mpg. no problems.
269,542 on my 2.2
My Miata was over 250k when I traded it in on my Mustang. Original engine and I drove it like I stole it ALL THE TIME.
My Miata has 225k and I still track and autocross it. Only thing that broke on it was a $3 thermostat. I’ve modified it heavily since I bought it five years ago with 160k. Miatas are great cars.
Spencer Williams Mine was a 10th Anniversary Edition and I adored it, although I drove the shit out of it. Only a few mods were necessary as it just frickin’ ran! I crossed it for a few years and only lost regularly to a badass Subie Rex and an AWD Eagle Talon.
95 with the 1.8/Torsen.
Flyin Miata VMAXX, Racing Beat sways, SuperMiata end links, Jackson Racing M45 ready to go on, Hard Dog roll bar with harness bar, intake, Racing Beat exhaust, nb2 seats with a Momo seat for events, etc
@Spencer Always wanted an NA, especially after I got rid of the NB.
I’ve seen 500k np.
219k on mine. Well maintained, and mostly highway miles.
oil changes and timing chain, timing chain tensioner, oil filter collapse. golden rule.
Should i wait until i hear timing chain noise to change it?
@Cliff yes
I have an 06 2.4L and I’m at 197000 and still running good
But I’ve had to put at least 5 suspensions on
200 on my 2.0
Most important thing with Ecotec 4 cylinders is to change the timing chain and guides around every 100k, just about the only thing that can go wrong with them
Change the oil & don’t over heat that engine & it should go a long time!
200k still going strong .change the oil .bought a second on .71k
My parts store used to have an HHR for deliveries. Had over 350,000 miles before the timing chain broke and they got rid of it.
I’m just 35K away from 200K!
222959. 08 panel
244k on 2010 2LT regular dealer service and runs great.
Someone on this page has over 400,000 miles I have 140
Both of ours are over 200k
Regular maintenance address problems as they come up don’t run it into the ground and it will last well beyond 200k
I had 220 before I got T Boned
Engine failures don’t have a timeline. Anything can go at any time.
I’m at 235k on a ‘11. Runs like a top
224 or 234 on my first 07 2.2 before it was totaled. 190 on my 2010 2.2 panel
With the lnf turbo block I got about 80,000 before blocked cracked and antifreeze went in the oil
This is really a loaded question. So many factors enter into how long an engine in any car lasts. Some drivers are really hard on an engine with the way they push it to its limits all the time, some people only change oil when its black and some only ever add oil, some cars are only ever driven in stop abd go traffic. All those things will affect how long a motor will last
2010 LS with 2.2 or original timing chain, no noise yet. Nearly 300k. Interior and paint still look nice too.
Rolled this last weekend. It’s about taking care of her. Original motor
Wow! How many times have you changed the timing chain?
Donald A. Brady II what engine do you have
Donald A. Brady II do you think the 2.4 has similar longevity on the chain? Mine are 2.4’s
Donald A. Brady II do you think its beyond the capabilities of a shade tree mechanic? From what I hear most places charge upwards of a $1000
You do it with engine in the car?
Good because I dont have a lift
Donald A. Brady II well that leaves me out ?
@Cliff 1x did chains
@Jerry thats really impressive! You must know what your doing
@Cliff do all the work myself since I wrench for a living. But as you already know anyone who does proper maintenance themselves or taking it in, and has some good luck to go with that can definitely run these for a long time.
@Jerry i have an 07 with 161k and an 06 with 202k. Neither one has any chain noise. Should i take off the valve cover and inspect for slack or leave em alone?
By 200k it wouldn’t be a bad idea.
Ha ha – Take care of your car and it will go 500K +
Yes
Still running great. No smoke, no rattles, no problems.
I’m going for it! Run Mobil 1 can change between 4k & 5k. It’s a 5 speed and I rev it.
