What would you value a great condition turbo II FC rx7 that only needs a new motor?

What would you value a great condition turbo II FC rx7 that only needs a new motor?
As a shell
Has everything but an engine. Body is extremely clean.
Yea. So I’d value it as a shell. Because that’s what it is
if everything is there to rebuild from unmolested? $1000-1500. if it has no engine at all to rebuild from? $500-800.
^^ you might be able to squeeze 2k out of it. But shells aren’t worth much really
The terms great condition and needs a new motor, are usually not placed next to each other. I’m with sean on this, not much money in a car that doesn’t run.
Course the sometimes you buy a car with a ‘blown head gasket” and all you needed was to change a fuse.
The body of the car is in great condition. No rust, all stock just missing an engine. My coworker is deciding whether he is going to sell it or part it out.
The car is sitting in the back under a car cover. Hasn’t ran in 8 years.
Contact me if no one buys it and he wants to part out.. seriously.. save my name or something. I could definitely use some parts
If the if the shell looks as good as you say, then don’t part it man. Waste of a good car.
Owner wants no less than 2k I only asked to see if it’s worth the 2k I’m about to go take some pictures of it
It has some of the turbo parts and mazdaspeed parts
What kind of turbo is it?
$1000ish
It’s dusty as hell through
And he just threw the turbo away the shaft had too much play
Is there anything in the engine bay?
Also is there any possibility that the rear diff and transmissions aren’t completely thrashed?
My coworker said he never thrashed it. He picked it up complete and pulled the motor found out apex seals blew and was originally told it needed fuel injectors. Insides of the rotor housings were torn up. I’ll get a picture of the engine bay later though. But he said when he did drive it, it shifts into all the gears fine just sputtered like it was ported like a mother fucker
Alright bare with me a sec. What does Ported mean?
I don’t know rotary engines, but that sounds like the dude who sold it had an oil leak and just never bothered to check it.
Or dude man was trying to be fancy and didn’t tune the engine right. http://mazdarotary.net/porting.htm
Who throws a turbo away?
It was the stock turbo and the shaft had a lot of play so it was no good and not worth a rebuild. And bridge port. It sounded like it had slower braps lol
Fair enough
That’s not bad
*tranmission
Whatever
I got mine running for 800 ?
That’s not bad. What all needed to be done?
Nothing I got the whole car running and driving ready for the road for 800
Well that’s fortunate.
Ikr!!!
That must a be a solid engine.
Yeah drove it 4 years without any issues then sold it
Why do you sell it?
Did
Why can’t you comment on a comment so that it doesnt keep popping up notifications and making the thread even longer
Looks clean, I’d pay at least 1000 for it. The single stage factory red paint will buff to amazing shape. You can get a good used engine for 1500 as a long block, and have a running TII for under 3K. I’d call that a win.
The owner said he wants no less than 2k for it. Or trade for another car. He already had a little over 4K invested when he bought it but ended up finding out the apex seal destroyed the motor.
2 is still a good-ish deal. You’d easily spend 500-1000 in just the racing beat exhaust, and possible paint/body work on another RX, which might not even be a real TII. I’m a bit biased though because I own a TII, and they’re built with the must-have parts from the factory like big brakes, LSD, power everything, etc.
If the body is clean I would easily think you can get 2000. But of course most will want to pay less. Depends on timing and who wants a tii. Looks good in the pics u should take some engine bay pics and under the car pics. Take pics of it in a lift. Should sell for 2k easily.
yeah, I dont think you’re in touch with reality to be honest. over the past few years I’ve paid $800-1200 for COMPLETE s4 turbo II cars…complete meaning that the entire engine is there to rebuild from. you don’t have that with this car. you’re gonna have to turn around and pay another grand or 2 for a complete engine to rebuild from. or pray that you get one good enough to run as is…and how many of us would really put a used non-rebuilt unknown condition 30 year old turbo rotary in their car and expect it to be reliable? none of us who know what we are talking about would…
@Matt BWM
The problem is finding a complete engine that doesn’t need repair for less than $1800 these days. You can actually find a clean running car for less than 4K.
This is going on his 2k asking price for a shell!
I agree but I still prefer to buy one with a blown motor. That way I know what I m starting from.
Well I got my turbo 2 not running for $1500. The paint isn’t in the greatest condition and I just swapped the interior out. But $40 fixed the issue with it not starting.
?
I grabbed mine for 350 and the fuel tank was rusted. Changed that and it has been running pretty good so far.
Actually that looks about right for 1500, Lacey. I mean I can’t ever see me paying more that 500 for a shell.
Where ya from @Barrett?
