No need to get the expensive oils. Just change it regularly and you’ll be fine. I’ve been running Walmart brand super tech for years. 1999 Tahoe 285k & 2005 suburban 222k.

Look up some comparisons on BITOG. They test different oils and lubricants. The super tech oil is not so much different from the mobile 1.

I’d rather use a high quality lubricant and change it less, rather than using a cheap one and changing it more frequently ??‍♂️

totally understandable. ?? still gonna spend the same about of money.

@Joe less labor tho. Saves time for other things

I’ve always been told that on the gen4 ls motors with DOD it was very important to use dexos labeled oil.

0
Joe

Agreed. ? in that case get the mobile 1 Annual Protection. Once a year ?

Joe

@Dan yes on GM motors after 2011

@Joe I have an 09 with DOD. As far as I know just about all Silverado, Tahoe, Sierra,Yukon after 07 had DOD and after 11 ish also added vvt

My airport city parking daily is a 03 Maxima beater. When I got the car cheap it had numerous oil leaks including both camshaft sensors, oil pan, rear main seal. That’s the car I experiment with. Different oils, different fluids cleaners. Find out what works and what doesn’t. Tried 5 different high mileage oils an attempt to stop the oil leaks and to my astonishment only oil to stop anything was the super tech high mileage oil. it was able to stop the rear main seal leak in that car. And for that matter all the leaks. Quick with in 2K. Working so good going to try the supertech synthetic high mileage. And see if that will hold. It’s a really good oil. Very surprised

@Larry nice. Most people think since it cost more it’s better. That’s not always the case. Especially with oils.

Obviously Walmart is not refining oil. I wonder what brand it really is

He’s comparing labels. All the major brands have similar labels and meet similar standards like API SN, dexos 2, etc. The only way is a blood test. Virgin oil analysis. That is where you see it’s not Mobil 1 the petroleum Institute has one. Bob is the oil guy has a couple floating around. It might be somebody’s base stock with somebody else’s additive. A unique blend. So far nobody over there has been able to figure out who is the major refiner

Do you do extended drains with the Amsoil? I hear it’s good to 25k

0
Garrett

Yeah it’s good up to 25k miles or 15k severe miles. But my friend @Joshua is currently over 33k miles on his and oil tests says he’s still good to go

Larry

Did he get a used oil analysis?

0
Garrett

Yes he is having his tested every 5k Miles now

I’m sure it can go that far. I’ve seen the oil analysis that proves it. The problem is my self-control. I enjoy changing the oil and how it feels right after. I can’t go longer than 0 on the oil life monitor. Not because I’m afraid of the oil not making it. It’s because I start sweating and going through maintenance withdrawals LOL
