Heat and fishing line
@Kaylea will the fishing line scratch the paint?
@Nick no
@Kaylea sweet! Thanks
I’ve done collision repair for 25 years. Fishing line to remove badging and moldings is the best kept secret. Do it all the time. Spider wire is the best because it doesn’t break as easily. Use a hair dryer to heat the left over tape and roll it off. Use goo gone and a soft cloth to clean up the residue. Perfect job every time.
I used to own an autobody shop and I agree
or use an eraser wheel after you pull the badge
@Justin yes, agree, but most don’t have an eraser wheel or know how to use it properly.
No argument there
Heat gun to take badge off, then 3M makes a rubber type wheel for your drill to take old adhesive or glue off. Got mine at o’Reilly for about $35
@Josh will the wheel scratch the paint?
I used floss and goo gone didn’t scratch and use it goo gone to rub off the outline of the badge
@Kevin sweet, have goo gone in my garage
@Nick goo gone floss and use a good microfiber towel and your set to go
@Kevin I’ll try that, thanks man
@Nick yup
@Nick no it does not scratch it is made specific for this job and it goes so fast. My trucks black and that goo gone shit did not work. It still leaves an edge from where the tape is. The 3M wheel knocks it clean out trust me
Oh and another thing that is way better than that goo gone garbage is an adhesive remover actually made by 3M. Comes in an aerosol can
@Josh ???? I will look into it thanks
What I did when I was considering doing that was to search for similar posts in the group. Worked great.
@Christopher thanks smartass?
@Nick, always happy to help!
Took mine off last weekend. I used masking tape to protect the paint around the emblems, and then used some leverage with a multi paint tool. Once the emblem was off, I used my fingers to roll off the adhesive, and ‘Goof Off’ (Home Depot’s Goo Gone) to remove residue. No scratches
I did the same as most, heat, fishing line, roll remaining with fingers, and goof off. No scratches and after some compound and wax, you would never know they were there. Makes washing it a lot easier! ?
I did mine 2 weeks ago. Blow dryer and peeled the emblems off no issues. Then used goo gone and a terry cloth to get the adhesive off. Finished it off with a 3m rubbing compound. Looks great.
