Depends on what you want. The 1mz is not the most powerful V6 to go with, of drop in stock Toyota motor options, 2gr makes the most power out of the V6 layout from Toyota. If you want,

Power, aftermarket, turbo, done a million times, very proven: 3sgte

Linear v6 power band, cheap and easy to swap V6 option, reliable, plentiful, easy to maintain: 1mzfe

I went with the 1mz, because for exactly what I want, the 1mz fits the bill. 3sgte is by far more popular and likely the funner option. Cons of both:
3sgte: turbo motors will mostly be more finicky than NA, stock short blocks hold about 300hp max ish or so I hear.

1mzfe: less than non-existant aftermarket, the most popular options are TRD Superchargers and they’re harder to find than a porn film with an engaging plot, or all custom one off forced induction setups that make it unreasonably expensive to undertake.

I’m not looking for extreme power. Just something with more power than the 2.2L

@John I’ve seen the whole head, and cams swap deal, and they give you a peak of maybe 10hp, but the 2mz never came here so the people that have that intake cam want crazy money for it, $500 just for the cams. They give you about 30 in the midrange so alot more area under the curve but I don’t really get how because the cams specs on the 2mz and 1mz are almost identical, I doubt there lobe seperation is different to enable some high rpm airflow. Idk if you’ve seen this, but using the Eaton M90s seems possible, but cramped and you’d have to fab a custom upper intake man. section, and the trd m62 can’t do much more than 6 psi on stock fuel, so the all in cost of doing a SAFC Injectors and the m90 with custom mounts, tensioners(?), and mani just seems like too much work to then be on stock internals that can’t handle the boost.

If your budget is 3k. Y not just do a gen2 3sgte? Better then the 2.2 and…. B.O.V. lol
