i have this issue as well…i saw the issue when i started to do the install…i left the clutch in the power setting and relocated the remotes plugin to under the hood…i may try and figure out a solution for changing from free spool to power with the used of some levers…here is a picture of where i mounted the remote plug…
I would think this would depend on the brand and size of Winch. It’s not a 550 Super Duty so a 12,000 pound winch is not necessary. I am ordering this bumper so I am interested in the subject of this thread. Following
This is a relevant question. You need to be able to see your winch drum to ensure the winch rope isn’t binding up on one end and to get to your winch drum for when the winch rope gets jammed up and to clean out mud etc. Similarly for access to the solenoid and wiring for the wireless remote if you have one. I see some very neat winch installs but wouldn’t like to use them because everything is neatly hidden. I like everything accessible on something that gets a lot of heavy duty use.
Also, when fitting and using a winch you need to consider how strong the mounts are. I used to have an SJ but mounted the winch very strongly to the frame. To the extent that when winching a Land Rover out of a hole it bent the Land Rover’s rear cross-member and even its steel wheel which was caught up on a buried log before. The 9mm Dyneema failed before any more damage could be done (I now run 11mm). My bad, but it does illustrates that the frame of the Suzuki could take that tension. Consider how strongly mounted winch bumpers are on your Renegade as without care you could tear the front of your car off 🙁
I wouldn’t pull a full size truck with my Renegade. Probably just myself really. It always works better to pre dig yourself before pulling yourself out.
What do you mean by that
If you’re talking about the clutch then no. You have to have your remote hooked up and inside the engine bay somewhere safe
So you can’t disconnect the clutch and free spool it out. I think that’s your question. You have to power out and in.
That’s what she said ?

@Steve yup.

Of course, it isn’t all about pulling a bogged vehicle out of a swamp – you can do the gardening with one too 🙂
@Steve yup. I used my S-10 to pull bushes. ??
I’m considering popping out one of my grill screens and just leaving it open for access to the winch clutch. But at the moment no easy access.
Thats why i asked lol couse u have to be able to see the winch
Well crap. I was liking the look of the AVID bumper and didn’t even think about the clutch or watching the line spool back in.
Right
Lol
