Rebore and use 86.5 but still better decision then down grade …. Gen3 is superior in many ways …. did u had any oil leaks in ur gen3 ?

I think he’s just talking about the block.

He’s talking about the bottom end. Aka the block that tends to crack around 500hp.

No oil leaks and it was only tuned at 290whp and I heard the 2nd gen was stronger

At 290 just get it honed and replace the rings

What’s that usually cost

And I’m leaning towards staying with the gen 3 if the gen 2 has no benefits

Don’t know the costs off top of my head. But yeah no benefit to run gen2. Once up in the higher hp, maybe 400 ish, then a 98+ 5s block would be preferred.

Does the gen 3 have benefits

Be fine with the gen3 block. Although that’s at the edge of gen3 pistons and rods.

Pull the head and check the condition on the cylinder walls. .. if the walls are ok the just hone the block and replace the rings.. if not then …… buy another gen 3 and swap it out because rebuilding it will be expensive and using a crappy machine shop will cost you down the road.

I have a great machine shop to use and I wanna upgrade the lower end so 350 isn’t maxed out and it will be more reliable

@David if that is the case then buy a 98+ 5s block and swap the gen 3 internals over (crank, stock rods) buy some off shelf pistons with updated wrist pins use the gen 3 oiling set up with the 98+ oil cooler then you’ll have a block ready for anything you throw at it.
