That said, a lot of all terrains will work pretty good in the snow. Still need 4wd once in a while. I’ve never used a mud tire.

I do use two sets of wheels. I have some junky 17s with skinny tires for snow and they work awesome. Use my 22s with 35 in the summer.

Deep heavy snow I found MT’s to work the best, but in almost all other instances a dedicated winter tire

All terrain is way better then mud terrain – snow and ice tires even better. But, you shouldn’t run ice tires in summer – the softer rubber wears out really fast in temperatures above freezing

As a Canadian who lives where there is snow 6 months out of the year. Just get an all terrain tire with the M+S stamped on it

@Juan I’m right there also. If you go off the roads then yeah it can get deep. It’s mostly icy. Some all-terrains with 4×4 is fine. There’s studless tires like blizzack but they are softer rubber and wear a lot if kept on in summer. Studded tires are only legal from sept-may. Best bet is A/T with some siping. You’ll be fine, it’s the other assholes you got to watch out for…?

Don’t get mud tires in Alaska. Unless you like to slide.

Look for snow rated tires. They have a little snowflake and mountain on the sidewall. Little softer compound for winter but not as soft as snow tires.
