Watched a video of a guy reviewing the ecoboost fusions and he stated that as long as you stay out of boost you’ll get the high mileage…which baicall means don’t let it rev past 2k ish…once you start getting into boost it drops the mileage like crazy…so basically take off easy, brake smoothly, don’t try to pass anyone, stay steady on your speed. Simply put…drive like a grandma…no offense to all the grandmas.

I’m stuck at a steady 17.5 to 17.7 if I’m really trying to get good mpg. I even set the display to instant mpg so I can watch it

When I do 45 and go the speed limit I get up to 38

17/18 mpg sounds about right for heavy city driving. It’s not a light car but gets good cruise mpg.

NickQuestion author

Yeah mine will claim immediate as 38-40 but no matter what’s it’s averaging out at 17.5-17.7

Reset it too.

If it’s all city driving, it on par. Plus winter gas drops mpg by about 2-3 even more so if you let your car warm up.

Mike

Yes what @Mike said, if it sits idle alot that will lessen mpg quite a bit.

I seem to get about 22 or 23 combined with my 14 titanium. Weird yours is way less. Lead foot perhaps? I know that got me horrible mpgs in my last car.

Occasionally yes but not often enough to stay that low while trying my damdest to make it go up driving granny style. Even when I was traveling at 70 for 45m straight it didn’t move

Kayla

That’s odd.. hm..

Good Lord. I’m tuned and with very spirited driving I manage 23.9mpg. If I drive normally then it’s around 25-26mpg depending on the season. Highway cruising at 85mph is 29-30mpg. 2014 2.0 fwd here.

Yup 2.0 ecoboost turbo

Mike

By chance are you running less than 93 octane?

0
NickQuestion author

Yes, should I not be?

0
Mike

What are you running? You should be using 93. Nothing less in a forced induction car. Gas mileage and power will suffer.

0
NickQuestion author

Really? I’m running 89 but everyone in my area carries 87,89,and 91 with 0 ethanol. I ran the 91 w/o ethanol for a whole tank and my mileage went down

0
Mike

Yep. The car will run on less octane but the car is designed to run on 93 or at least premium 91. Running Less won’t hurt it but will retard timing when it detects knock and it will decrease performance. I’ve always noticed a loss in mileage if I ran less but usually not much of a gain if I run 93 just due to the car running better and me having my foot in it more. Are you sure the gas stations are ethanol free? There aren’t too many of those still around and usually it is more expensive than the same gas with the 10percent ethanol added.

0
Mike

Contrary to popular belief ethanol gas isn’t that bad. If you were able to tune for it, you would actually see a substantial increase in power. A lot of people and myself included ran e85 and tuned for it and got almost 40whp just from switching to that. Sure gas mileage goes down a bit but ethanol is really like high octane race gas. It’s like 115 octane or so.

0
NickQuestion author

All stations near me carry 91 no ethanol and 87,89 with ethanol

0
NickQuestion author

@Mike yeah a lot of guys in my ford probe group have modded/switched there 2.2 turbos to e85 and saw substantial gains

0
Mike

What I would do is run a few tanks of 91 and average the mileage after those few tanks. All city driving and in winter is the worst for fuel mileage.

0
Mike

Also don’t go off what the dash says. It’s not really that accurate. Mine says 15.9 but I figured it out that I’m getting about 17 right now.

NickQuestion author

It all boils down to it need to get me a nice cobb access port lol. Why? Bc that’s why lol

0
Mike

Lol…the accessport is a very nice tuner. Getting a Pro tune after would get you some hefty gains.
