I have lowering springs, and I like them a lot…. have not tried coils, but from what ive read on Club Lexus, the DF210s give the closest to OEM ride with a drop. As far as the coils, I have no personal experience with them on this car.

Im on springs right now yet to try coils as well but my struts need replacing so i was thinKing of getting Meagan Ez streets

if your already on springs, you can get OEM Sensen struts from Rockauto for $20 a piece. Why bother with coils when you can replace all 4 struts for under $100. Its just not cost effective.

Main reason I wanted coils was just the ride height difference my mechanic was saying their not cost effective as well

change your tires, I went from 225/60/16 to 215/55/16 and on http://www.willtheyfit.com/ it says that is a 22.25mm drop, which is almost an inch.

yeah my speedo is 5% off. So if im going 80mph, 10% of that is 8, divided by 2, and im 4mph off. Its negligible.

Yeah and an over/under inflated tire can do the same thing. LUCKILY FOR US…. The speedometer gets its information from the sensor on the transmission

So I dont have to worry about the speedo out? damn im sick of doing the math while driving, and if im doing it for no reason, im going to be irritated lol

@Mike regardless of if the speedo gets it’s info from a wheel sensor or the trans, the tire size will still affect the shown speed the same amount as it is effectively the final gear ratio to the ground. Generally speaking +/-3% is considered “Safe” to within tolerance, 5% is less than ideal in terms of geometry and often times load rating.

@Chris Sensen shocks are complete shit. What good are $20 shocks if you have to spend $200-250 every year or two to replace them. The KYB or Bilstein (for UCF2x) are a better comparison but then you’re into ~250-450 for a set, at which point the coilovers are somewhat more comparable.

But the discussion isn’t that simple as most coilovers will simply not last as long as an OEM quality replacement shock (~125-175k miles). The Megans are a great replacement but don’t expect to get more than 50-80k miles out of them. And any drop spring > 1.5″ will eat shocks as they’ll be working far out of designed range. DF210s will blow KYB considerably faster than stock or H&R springs will.

in what universe do you guys live that you think just because the speed sensor is in the trans the tire size doesn’t matter to displayed speed? O.o

Unless you’ve got a GPS based speedometer, tire size matters.

Wait… in what universe do $20 shocks cost $200-$250 to replace?? Last time I checked, $20×4 was $80…. Then you can shoot for KYB ones at $44 a piece. $44×4= $176. Still less than $200-$250

The 200-250 was average independent labor cost to do a UCF1/2x shock replacement, including R&R and shock assembly. In addition there’s the parts cost.

Do the work yourself? Great, unless you’ve got a lift and a pneumatic spring compressor that’s still ~3-5 hours at whatever your time’s worth.

Labor cost? pneumatic spring compressor? All these little girl toys.. I got a manual spring compressor, and wrenches and sockets. no air tools, no girly shit. And my time is worth whatever my car needs. Struts on the car, car gets me to work, keeps tires from wearing faster, pays for itself.

@Chris while you may be willing to spend 3-5 hours a year redoing the suspension on your car to save ~$220 in parts (300 for KYB minus 80 for the sensen) others may not feel the same way.

@Mike no, actually it isn’t. there is no loss of rpm to friction as there is for power transmission. Rather than give you an essay on how you can use any source of post-transmission RPM for the speedometer including the trans, driveshaft, rear end, rear axle, rear hub, or even direct tire sensor to get the displayed speed (provided the speedo is calibrated for the gearing and tire size), i’ll link you to wikipedia and let you read for yourself. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wheel_speed_sensor

Who doesnt want to save on labor?? thats more money for other car parts…

lol I do most of my work myself, but not everyone does. That and I don’t like crap parts. Rather use the money i save to put the right stuff on the first time.

well see! who bothers with worrying about labor costs. if anyone here is having a shop put on their suspension, they need to go to the top of this page, and hover over “Joined Group” and the click “Leave Group”. no room round these parts for people too good to get their hands dirty.

I’ve got a few friends with disabilities who would gladly tell you to go fuck yourself if you said that to them.

Everyone’s here because of a like for the LS, no need to get all high and mighty.

They have a reason to not do it. But without a reason, its just a shame. Car guys that dont turn wrenches are the worst.

Btw. I do have a gps speed sensor in my 2din headunit. It matches my speedo exactly and my tire circumference is different than stock

I know right, we care about labor costs and cheap $20 shocks because we can barely afford steelies as a “different” alternative! Times are hard if you gotta put on steelies…. LOL @Annant
