Picked up a 79 sa with a 13b already swapped into it. How do I figure out which 13b it is? S4/s5 wise?

Front cover. S4 has mechanical Omp. S5 has electronic
Post pics
The center iron has egr on it. The s5 is just blank
Prolly s4 since it uses a 12a or gslse cover. Does it have factory intake manifolds? If so take a pic of the upper. Thats a dead giveaway. The s4 and s5 are completely different
Could also be an s3 13b from the GSLSE.
Could be an earlier 13b from like an rx3
Or a repu
If it’s a 70s 13b those have big ports.
u can measure the gap between the leading and trailing spark plugs 28mm gap is a S5 23mm Gap is a S4, this only applies to S4 and S5 fc 13B engines
All 13b/12a front covers are interchangeable. As a matter of fact, to drop in a 13b in a first gen you would use the 12a front cover or a GSL-SE front cover with a GSLSE or REPU oil pan.
Pics incoming in a min…. Taking off trailer now
True dual pipes all the way back until the muffler! They Y into one directly above the axle
Opm would appear mechanical
Only 2 oil injector lines, dizzy, early 13b. Definitely not a s4/s5
No knock sensor bosses on the housings point towards an old 13b as well.
S3 13b?
Lol idk you guys tell me, I’m still learning
Not a Gsl se those have four omp línes aswell
You cant have a electronic omp using a first gen front cover. Only mechanical. Heck im installing a FD engine in my first gen using a GSL-SE front cover 🙂 All 13b engines bolt right up.
Hmmm
@Larado you should be able to help in this
It’s a 12a front cover with a 12a OMP
Know the difference @jessica?
We’ve already established its not s4 or s5
@Landon is this a gsl se block?
Upon further inspection, i have no doubt in my mind thar this engine IS a GSL-SE. Look at the “13b” notice how its stamped vs 2nd gen and newer housings.
Heres a pic of my s5 housing for reference. I also have a s4, another s5, and a fd housing and they all look like this, “flat”. The GSL-SE Housings are like OP’s. Older 13bs made before 79 had a different font used on the mazda logo aswell.
Post center iron where an fc enginer mount sheet metal would go
Bottom of center iron driver side
Shoot I cant tell.. almost looks older than an se..
Im calling oldschool 13b or gslse hpusings w 12a irons.
Well, you raise lots of questions that may not be albe to be answered without removing the motor. IT IS NOT a GSL-SE or FC motor
@David is the next level of identication. Lol
the lower manifold is in the old school 4 port configuration which means it is either a 76-78 motor or a 4 port built with 12a irons and GSL-SE rotor housings. BUT the internals could be anything 13B
you got it right @Landon
Which means bigger ports?
Ooooo so this could be a 13b with the coolant jacket on the rotor housings
