Longtubes sound and perform better

the shorties will be bolt in easy and will give some gains in performance and it will sound better the longtubes will give you better performance and sound but take a bit more work but will be what you want if you plan to build into the motor at all

I had a set of long tubes on my 5.7 tahoe and it seemed like the throttle response got worse idk why and they were a pain in the dick too install. I have a 5.2 in my truck now but I’m wanting too swap in a 5.9 when this motor goes. I’m pretty sure the headers are the same for both the 5.2 and 5.9 motors. True ?

I would do shorty headers, cat back exhaust and get a tune. That will get you sound and performance in my opinion. It’s what I’m doing this coming spring.

Thats what I’m leaning towards. I really don’t want too have too custom fabricate a y-pipe

My 5.2 has 180.xxx on it. burning oil, and just doesn’t have the ball anymore so I’m not gonna waste my money and time building something that’s beat.

I also have a 5.2L with 205.xxx and could run better. Trucks paid for, so its cheaper for me to put a little cash to the motor than try and do an engine swap or buy another truck.

the long tubes are better for performance and sound but are more expensive. There is a TSB on your engine for burning oil. There is a removable plate on the bottom of your factory intake with a gasket. The gasket blows out and allows the engine to suck the oil from the intake valley. The oil sucked into the engine becomes carbon deposits in the cylinders which causes spark knock and if you allow the spark knock to continue especially under heavy load or towing… You can do some serious damage to the engine…. eg* holes in pistons, cracked heads

I agree with the long tubes, you’ll get better performance and sound, but you’ll still get a big improvement with shortys over stock manifolds

Are the performance gains worth doing the work for the long tubes? And do the short tubes bolt up to stock?

if you wanna spend the money, get them ceramic coated, or some people like the look of heat wrap.

I’d probably just heat wrap them but some people I’ve talked too say it doesn’t work.
