Just bought my first 4Runner SR5 5th Gen and was wondering what you use the S4 gear for?

@Julia aren’t they all?
Towing. I also use it a bit on my local rolling hills where it would spend a bunch of time opening the torque converter or dropping to 4th. I also like it when merging onto a highway as I like having a little more torque than 5th provides, but don’t necessarily want to give it as much throttle as is needed to have it automatically kick down.
It’s just a sport manual shift option. Lots of cars have them.
Well I use my diesel for towing so I’ll just use it for sport mode..
Ben Taggart thanks.
R is race mode.
Wow! This page has become a page for trolls!!! A person asks a question for improving knowledge and all the keyboard comedians come out to play!
My understanding of S mode is that it changes the shift points to give sportier acceleration or less searching for gears when driving up steep hills or towing.
