@Seth water container was empty. Why have a basket if you don’t use it ?? made a trip from eastern pa to the panhandle of Florida in September, not as much stuff as the trip I posted but still had a load
My basket was super loud & when loaded for travel severely affected my MPG. I was getting low 20’s on my trip compared to upper 20’s-low 30’s without the rack. 2015 Crosstrek Limited.
In California with AT tires approx 2-3 mpg less… I list CA because the lean fuel here SUCKS. With the summer fuel blend you’ll loose significantly more, in the 4-7 mpg range.
Any wind drag will effect your mpg.
@RC I understand that. Curious how much?
Torin Morgan Good question. Every car and driver varies.
2-5 mpg area
Drop 20mpg
It will actually add top speed.
Just took mine off and gained 4mpg
@Justin I just took it off. I think it was killing mpg.
@Torin yes it doesn’t help lol I’m mixed city and freeway and get 28mpg but with the basket it was around 23-24
Highway I went from 33-35 mpg “naked” to like 26-28 with a fully loaded basket.
@Zach jeez dude wrud. That’s not just a basket. That’s a massive brick.. with..water?

Me + the wife + 2 short haired pointers I only had room in the cargo area (which held a 210 can cooler full of food for the week)
@Zach id use a hitch hauler for the majority of it to save some MPGs but that’s just me lol
@Seth I’ve considered it but I can haul so much more. Next step is a trailer
@Zach mine too. Ultra small with a spare that can double as a RTT carrier
Didnt affect mine at all
@William there’s no way yours wasn’t affected, it’s like putting a parachute on a hot wheels lol
@Justin maybe his rack had jet assist? ?
We have actually lost 2-3 but not 10 like some are claiming.
I lose 3-5 when mine is on.

Minimal

@Ernesto
@Ernesto that’s me if I lived in Cali
seeing as how it was on when you purchased, it should have no negative effect on current mpg
