I thought the same thing when going from my 2006 to 2010 and 2014. I was told they are just geared different. But the 2006 would run circles around the 5th gen
Seeing as I still have my 4th: yes. Definitely. The way it shifts is very different.
5th likes to run in higher gears, presumably to improve mpg. So I have to stomp on it to get things moving at a more-than-sedate pace. Especially after adding bumper, winch and sliders.
But it’s fine. I’m getting used to just taking it a bit slower.
Just be glad it didnt get the 3.5l like the new Tacoma did, tons of those owners complain the older 4.0 was way stronger. Toyota really does need a V8 option for these trucks, however for the love of God .. Don’t make it AWD again.. No thanks on that
I sold my 5th gen for a 4th gen with a v8. Problem solved.

You can always re gear the 5th gen.

Exactly
No, but the 5th gen is heavier I think.
At least by 350 lbs
Just don’t be in a rush to go anywhere. I didn’t buy my 4runner to go fast
Hard for me to say I had the v8 in my 4th gen. I loved that motor. Smooth , quiet , decent mileage , lots of power.
