I got a 2005 rx8 how do you know when the rotor is bad starts and drives fine but at idle it wants to cut off

Sounds like you need to adjust the idle
Compression test, how many miles are on it?
Wait till car is warm then try starting if it starts right up compression should be fine
You could have a vacume leak
Plugs, coils, and wires.
just compression test it if comp is unknown
IF good THEN start spending money on plugs/coils and looking for vac leaks
Maf sensor/tps sensor
there is no tps to check really, but you can reset the data for the ECU/trims. but seriously….
1. Comp test (doesnt hurt to know, and no sense chasing your tail if its low)
2. Check for Vac leaks
3. Change coils/plugs (expensive but i promise you if you’ve never changed and you’ve had the car any time you need at least coils)
4. Check fuel pressure
5. Check cat for cloggedness
Can always be more things but those should fix you up
Does it not have a idle screw like the older 13b?
No it doesnt
an idle screw isn’t going to solve the issue anyways. Only cover it up.
Redline it
That’s what I did with my 7. It was totally fine but wouldn’t idle consistently. No issues 500 miles later.
We’re all forgetting that if an 8 is misfiring there’s a mil same for vac leaks
So is the mil on?
A missfire on the 8 usually points to ignition.
An idle wanting to make the 8 cut off usually points to ignition.
Although there could be MANY things causing it, ignition related is usually first on the rx8 because of how common it’s over looked and how problematic the OEM ignition is.
I suggest searching the rx8club to the OP
Misfire on an 8 is like guaranteed coil don’t buy plugs or wires till you swap the coil
Testing is simple get pliers pull the wires a little off the coil you should see the arc
But again would have a mil if it needed coils
What is a good compression on trailing and leading
Always test out leading should be Between 600 and 800 kpa
But you also must consider difference between rotors and chambers
Especially if it runs ok but idles rough
I have an 04 that dies out after reaching temp. My next move, that I haven’t made in a month, haha. Is to do cold v hot compression test. You could be out of spec on one or more sides of either rotor once the housing reaches temp. It sucks, but it’s reality. Good luck man. The 8 is quite the cry baby. My 7 beat it’s ass everyday…
What’s the year and mileage on the OP’s car? It may still be under warranty.
Thanks fellows
The 8 has a huge carbon issue as well you may need to decarb it
There is a special cleaner to do so
Have you ever wonderd why there’s two caped ports on your lower intake
There for decarb
A bad rotor will vibrate right and smoke it’s ass off
It can one other thing they may do is if you let it sit then pull plugs you may see coolant coming from plug holes while cranking
My recommendation to you decarb it with Mazda spray or pay them to start there
Change the coils and plugs also clean the Maf
Does this thing have a check engine light
