How often do people do oil changes? Only drive about 12k/year. 2018 with just a few miles over 6k from new in February.

Every 7-9,000 miles. I drive about 30,000 a year
About every 20k miles
In general, Ford Motor Company recommends the following oil change schedule: 2008 and newer model-year vehicles: every 7,500 miles or every six months, whichever comes first. 2007 and older model-year vehicles: every 5,000 miles or every six months, whichever comes first
Change mine every 4-5000 miles
You have to change the oil?
U beat me to it
I’ve stuck with 5,000 miles until my extended warranty ran out. Now I go between 7,500 and 10,000. The oil life is set at 10,000 intervals. Just check oil level periodically. 2017 1.5, I drive roughly 50,000 miles a year.
thats alot of miles per year.
@Nick yessir, I work 75 miles away from the house five days a week, so between that and taking it half way across the country, and a couple trips out of town the miles add up quick lol. I’m already at 75,000 miles.
You could save quite a bit of time running our signature series oil. 15k miles in severe service and 25k miles in normal service. With that many miles a year a 25k mile drain would be too easy. We have people clearing 30k miles regularly.
Whenever the computer says it is time. Actually, it hasn’t ever prompted, usually around 15-20%. Comes put to be about 6-7k, about once a year.
Once a year which is about 4 to 6k on the mileage.
I always change mine around 4-5K miles which comes to be about 3 times a year since I put about 15k miles on a year. I use to do my oil every 3,500 miles but money is tight and I don’t have the time anymore. I just use Royal Purple I know some of you don’t like that but I don’t mind it so I’m going to keep using it.
The rules of 3k and 3.5k oil changes are gone. It is incredibly wasteful of your time, energy, money, and ecologically too. The only people you will ever hear 3-4k from anymore is someone that is trying to sell you oil.
Yea that’s also why I bumped it up to 4-5k miles. I don’t like going to high especially past 6k because I don’t want engine sludge I’ve seen engine sludge before from lack of oil changes and it’s not good. I like to keep my stuff well maintained so it last a long time and runs like new.
Thanks. I have always done 3,500 or 6 months in my older cars, just wanted to see about the newer one. I planned on doing it soon anyways.
5000 klms
I have an 08 and I have mine changed every 6k
I do every 10k with Mobil 1 full synthetic. 51k on it now, had it since 5500 miles, and put on about 18-20k per yesr
Every 5,000 miles.
Dealer recommends every 5k
I do mine every other month
I put on 5k a month so I get one every month always full synthetic
Depends on the oil and filter.
When it was getting conventional with a basic filter it got them at 3,000
Now it’s full synthetic 10,000 mile oil and a long life synthetic filter but I would never go that long lol. 6500 ish is when i change it. The oil is still clean I just feel safer doing it before 7k. Same oil/filter and intervals with our other cars.
6 months or $5,000 miles. I recommend synthetic. Especially for that low of miles. I’m assuming all city?
It’s about even between highway and city.
3-4k in my SHO.
Amsoil signature 15k. I don’t run it that long but its definitely worth the money. Fuel dilution is common in GDI which will change the viscosity of the oil and amsoil has a chemical that prevents that from happening for a longer period of time.
Every 5k
Every 3k.
Every 5000 here
5k
Every 7500 as I was told by the dealer who sold me the car. 2010 3.0
I change my Fusion’s oil once a year. When the car says
When the OLM reaches 5-10% or 1 year. Black stone lab tests have shown 8,500 miles on Pennzoil Ultra Platinum is fine and a 10k run wouldn’t even be pushing the capability of the oil. 2016 2.0 Ecoboost.
Ford says 5k
20k… but it’s a Hybrid
15k miles with AMSOIL. Keep in mind Ford’s recommendation is based on their own oil quality which isn’t very good. You could go longer on higher quality oil.
Our signature series oil is rated for 15k miles in severe service driving or 25k miles in normal service. @Scott is running it for 20k miles.
Let me know if you’re interested and I can get you pricing on it.
I thought he was trolling me! I reacted to his comment with a laughing face because I thought for sure he wanted me to blow my engine ?
@Jane Nope. He’s running AMSOIL. We have people running past 30k miles on this oil. It really can do it and we’ve validated that repeatedly with oil analysis.
I’m running it too. As posted above
Every 3k. Ford says 5k bc they want you to buy a new car not keep your old one.
Oil companies say 3k so you buy more oil before needed
John Mezzoni hey it’s your car do what you want. But I’m dropping motors in at 60k because they’ve only done 7 oil changes because that’s what ford says
I guess I’ll be able to test the theory in 8500 miles
@John it’s not a theory it’s what I see daily
@Mike as I said earlier Ford’s oils are not very good.
Some oils can go far longer. That’s also not a theory, but proven with oil analysis. I had one customer clear 100k miles on one change in a cruze diesel with 5 quarts topped off in that time. That’s not something Ford’s oils are capable of doing, obviously.
Just be sure to distinguish oil quality when telling people that they’ll have engine failure if they don’t change oil often.
Most of your customers that go too long on a change are using the cheapest stuff they can. 3k intervals are so 1985. Only necessary if you’re using garbage oil.
@Andrei that’s the problem. It’s what people read in the manuals or go off the timer in their instrument cluster. All I hear is “ well ford says”.
@Mike have you seen Ford’s 5W-50 “synthetic” they put in their track pack mustangs? Shears down to a 30 weight oil in 3k miles. Horrible. If their “synthetic” labeled oil is that bad, I shudder to think how bad their conventional is.
Our oils don’t coke up, sludge, or shear down in viscosity for 25k miles or more. The stuff is insane. There’s no reason, IMO to use cheap oils at 3k intervals when you could safely go 5x as long and have better protection and fuel economy to boot.
Andrei Pop I can guarantee you you more than half the people on this page change their oil every 5k or more and get their oil from a dealer or quick lube. That’s why I recommend 3k. Last I heard the bulk oil we use is recycled oil.
Well if anyone’s interested I sell a far better oil that lasts a lot longer.
For what it’s worth my 10k mile interveral change is done using Mobil 1 full synthetic. I use it in my fusion and my ls1 trans am, the TA tho I do just once a year at the start of every season, and actually didn’t even do it this year, as I’ve only driven maybe 500 miles this year tops. Even on a good year that car sees maybe 3k miles tops, but that’s all besides the point
@John at least it’s better than the stuff Ford puts in there. Not that it’s great but it’s not as bad.
Anyone that claims any significant noticeable fuel economy gains from a particular motor oil has 0 credibility.
2016 fusion titanium… Full synthetic… 5-6k miles
Wait!? We’re suppose to change it?
5K km
Inlaws never did enough mileage to warrant a change.. so they did the oil when the winters went on or came off.
Andrei Pop, I see you’re also in the league of extraordinary miniacs group, do you have a fusion or a mini or are you just doing advertising in various groups
Actually I get brought into these groups by customers who ask me to share some knowledge. I’ve spent 5 years studying for an STLE CLS and know more about lubrication engineering than anyone you’ll probably ever meet. The advertising comes with the territory. In business I’m what you call a “value added reseller.” It’s my job to know everything I can about lubrication since I have a vested interest in the industry.
So no, I don’t “just do advertising.” I do some advertising but a lot more teaching and correcting misinformation.
For my Hybrid, every 10k with full synthetic 0W-20 Pennzoil Platinum with K&N premium filter. Holding down 43-52 mpg (to work : from work) of 55 mi round trips with 80/20 highway/city. 79k miles problem free and counting.
Measure the amount of oil left with 0W oil before and after a 10k change.
Brock A Kerr I lost about a quart when I used Mobil 1 equivalent but now about .75 now that I switched to Pennzoil. (5 qt required)
3K on all my rides.
You’re changing way too often
@Colin To each their own. I’ve never had an engine issue and never check my oil. Plus I get oil changes at dealer cost so it’s about 25 to 30 for full synthetic oil change.
Ford literally says 9500 miles. If you like spending unnecessary money then sure
@Colin I enjoy it ?
About every 5 months. I have oil levels checked in between.
USE MOTORCRAFT 5W-20 SEMI SYNTHETIC AND CHANGE EVERY 9500 MILES.
Anything other than that is just preference, that’s what ford tells you to do.
Semi-synthetic is the same as synthetic blend right? Lol I change mine every 1.5 to 2 months
Yes, ford recommends 9500 miles
