Yeah just ditch them. Cat less Y or true dual if you want different. Ditch all 3 actually

I didn’t want to spend the $$$ on headers right now.
So I think this was the front pipe I used.
Keeps the main cat but removed the precats.
This way you don’t need to bypass the smog pump and such.

The headman Elites are the best bag for buck headers. They fit great too.

The main cat is the biggest hp killer on the l98. You dont have to do anything with the smog if you delete the main cat

You also need to decide if you want a louder car!
And if it’s louder outside, it’s louder inside !
If it’s your Friday night toy, vs a daily toy, that may affect your choices.

” If its too loud you are too old” LOL

As I said, as a daily driver for some it MaY not be what you want.
If you take trips long distance it may not be what you want.
I ride Harley’s so I like them loud!!

Borla S type was a tad louder than I like for distance, but great for
Playing.
I added sound mat to the rear floor, which helped a lot.
And it’s much better than the factory drone ever was.

X pipe cut outs and a quiet exhaust, best of both worlds

go high flow cats you have to have them no matter what the only way you dont need the cats is if you converted to crappy carb set up but if its still fuel injected you have to have the cats they help the car to run right when you take off the cats and leave them off the car will run to lean thats not a good thing and you should change the o2 sensors too now if you spend a few hundred on a custom chip you can run no cats the chip will be programed showing theres still a cat and it wont run lean

No Pre cats on my car just the main Cat and it runs strong.
Not lean and no codes.

I’ve had 10 c4’s and always ordered the “Canadian front y pipe” since they had no front cats when new, and they run cooller and better, offered to this day at Mid America corvette’s in 2.25 in or 2.50 in in steel or stainless

If your motor is stock you don’t necessarily need headers. They will add some HP and help it run cooler. But not a must. You can add them later. Do long tubes if you do I talked to a dozen pro mechanics and exhaust guys. They all say the same. Straight true duals.. scrap the cats replace with X pipe into good mufflers.

The air/fuel mixture in a fuel injected engine is mostly controlled by the input from oxygen sensor”s”in closed loop operation. It has nothing to do with a converter”s”.

Leave the main cat but upgrade it to a high flow unit, Random Technology being the best in my opinion. After that, buy a new front Y-pipe without the Pre-cats. This will free up a little power and sound, not to mention how much easier and quicker you’ll notice the car revving up and down. While keeping the car street legal, even in states like Oregon, Washington, and California.
