Even after getting my car aligned, my steering wheel has to be tilted to drive straight. Really bugs me. Any fixes?

get it realigned by a better shop
Well, obviously they didn’t align it then.
Take it back to the shop and say give me my money back or fix it.. they are supposed to recenter your wheel before doing the all ighnment
Maybe the steering wheel has been taken off before and not put back correct. If the car drives straight unbolt it and move it a few splines.
Is it an aftermarket steering wheel?
Take to someone else and tell them to center the steering then do a front alignment
Take it back… They should take care of it
Post the alignment sheet.
Why pay twice.. Go back to same place. If they cant or wont fix it then get your money back and find a better shop
It would be a recheck on them. They obviously didn’t test drive it after they aligned it, so they need to redo it for free.
^way more work than making the shop do what you paid for.
Actually that’s the award for the most wrong answer. Toe adjustment can cover up the wheel being off a couple splines.
Thanks guys, I really appreciate all the feedback! This is the second shop that’s had the wheel crooked which worries me. I think I’ll take it back
They probably did it wrong honestly. I put an aftermarket steering wheel on crooked and they purposely changed the alignment to make my wheel straight.
I get paid to do alignments.
The only time moving the wheel should come into play is if it was put in so crooked that you run out of toe adjustment before getting it straight.
This is what u do
Make the wheels straight
Then remove the u joint that connects from the steering column to the rack and pinion
Turn the wheel in its original place then put the u joint back and tighten it
In the 5 years I’ve been in shops, I’ve seen that only one time.
Oh well. OP figured it out.
Lol
The only time you move the steering wheel on the splines is if the rack isn’t centered with the wheel. To do that you have to count turns from lock to lock then half the turns back. That’s centering the rack. The wheel should be straight. If it is then adjust toe.
Ive never had an aligned wheel
In a miata
Selling and doing alignments are to different things…
I agree take it back to the shop. Tell them to fix it
Even things like a 2 wheel alignment and 4 wheel alignment can make these sorts of issues arrive. If they only aligned the front wheels which could be spot on, but Ur thrust angle could be way off from possibly bent parts in the rear that they may have missed and wouldn’t have seen if only doing The front 2 wheel alignment.
The shop needs to fix it. the steering wheel is supposed to be locked in the straight position during the alignment or else it would get aligned with a crooked wheel.
Take it back and have them do it again at their cost.
Rotate your tires.
Turn Ur steering wheel to full lock of the direction it’s off and push really hard till it moves the lil bit it’s off
