Not exactly sure what your asking for as far as “options” but there only 2 d44 types you can run on a TJ and that’s a TJ D44 or a JKD44 which is gonna take a lot of fab work

@Dominic thought he was talking axles in general not the customization

Scott

You can run a TJ/LJ bolt in 44 or with Fab work you can run a ford D44 or a Dodge 44

0
Scott

Personally if I were going to go thru the Fab work I would put a D60 2005 up SD in it.

Nathan

Them JK D44’s with Artec JK2TJ trusses. We’ll see how “bolt up” they are. My biggest concern will be the track bar. May need custom.

@Cody are JK axles wider?

@Cody Someone local told me my only option is the 2003-2006 TJ Rubicon Dana 44?

0
Marty

@Joe yes 5”

Joe

@Marty I, like Cody, want a front 44, but a JK is out because I’d have to cut the axle tubes down. In WV they don’t like too much tire outside of the flare. WV law is no tire sidewall outside of flare but you can get by with about an inch….

0
Cody

@Travis that’s only if you want a direct bolt in.

Joe

@Cody I do.

You can buy an over priced bolt in rubi 44 and still have weak d30 outers. OR you can buy an expensive aftermarket bolt in TJ 44 and STILL have weak D30 outers. Or You can buy a JK rubi 44 and have to deal with welding brackets and the wider WMS. OR find a driver drop non disconnect Waggy 44, weld on brackets (TNT customs makes a kit) swap the spindles and hubs to Ford to get a 5×5.5 bolt pattern and match the rear BP with duel drilled chrome axle shafts. THEN you will have a D44 with real 2 bearing outers and manual hubs. OOOOR even more work find a HP full width Ford 44 and shorten the pass tube to waggy length run waggy shafts and same rear BP set up. Pick ur poison

I use to run a waggy 44, 488s grizzly locker and RCVs with 37″ red labels and 4 speed atlas. Worked great. Don’t let people scare you away from the LP axle

Jordan

@Dominic at what point did you jump to a 60?

0
Dominic

@Jordan I didnt…. I built a front steering 14 bolt when I went from 104 WB to 110 and 39 ” red lables

1
Jordan

@Dominic I keep thinking about building the hp44 I have in the garage, but don’t want to regret it, and I’m not planning more than 37s

0
Dominic

@Jordan shorten or match full width rear?

0
Jordan

@Dominic to match an already installed 9”. Also running a LS, but I’m pretty easy on it

1
Dominic

67″44/65″ 9 is a cool set up

Dominic

@Jordan If u have a shaft issue go rcv. Mine help up 5o a thrashing with a 10.3:1 double low and stickies

Waggy 44, ford hp44; can do a dodge but not common at ALL. Could even do a JL. Depend on time, skill, and money

Dodge is pass drop vacuum. Bad choice

@Dominic depends on the year. I’m building a Dodge D44 ds drop CDA with 8lug outers axle now for my XJ.

Dominic

Not a fan of the cad but sometimes ya gotta work with what ya got

0
Lucas

Plus you can get a shaft that doesnt use it. I know a guy with a dodge d60 thats built that way only down fall is not locking hubs but you can get them

And he loves the axle

Or a bolt in from @Carbon with waranty

D44 isn’t enough of an upgrade to mess with. Still have the same size u joints in the axle shafts

not when you upgrade shafts.

Then you have more in it that you would in a 60 swap

@Chips you still use weak dana 30 outters. Not worth the price having to reuse the d30 parts.

0
Mic

but even the rubicon 44’s use the same knuckles/unit bearings/brakes/ball joints. In the TJs and JKs and JLs respective axles.

@Jeff
Not if you get a complete unit, all HD new Gen JK 44 , with 1/2” tubes and bigger brakes

@Mic, so basically a bolt in option that will match the rear? That’s what I’m looking for. Someone local told me my only option is the 2003-2006 TJ Rubicon Dana 44?

@Travis negative sir.

American-made CORE 44 housings accept the latest generation Dana 44 gear design, with a larger diameter ring gear and bigger pinion shaft to withstand hard off-road use. Our housings feature forged bearing caps and a unique G-lock adjuster nut system to set backlash and carrier bearing preload. CORE 44 axles use additional ribbing on the cast center section and 3-inch diameter, 5/16-wall DOM axle tubes with forged inner Cs for use with tall, aggressive tires.

The CORE 44 is a direct replacement for the Dana 30 under the front of your leaf sprung 87-95 YJ Wrangler or coil sprung 97-06 TJ Wrangler. All brackets are designed around stock mounting points, and are laser cut and CNC formed from 3/8-inch steel for added strength. We have also gusseted and reinforced any weak points to prevent damage to the brackets and finish the housing in a UV-stable black powdercoat.

The CORE 44 comes fully assembled with your choice of gear ratio and locker. Gear ratios vary from 3.73 to 5.38 and locker choices include ARB Air Locker, Eaton E-Locker, Detroit Locker, Truetrac, G2 selectable locker, and Auburn ECTED.

@Rob, the Dana 30? Sure, that’s the plan right now but I would like to have the 44 ready to go rather than be broken and looking? Also, the rig came with the long travel suspension upgrade and 37″ Toyos… So I’m thinking that the 30 won’t last long?

0
Mic

not likely. This was mine on the first outing on 37’s.

@Mic Detroit in the rear and arb in the 30. I guess it’s all in how you wheel. Running 37s.

The axles are the weak link. The 30 and 44 use the same U-Joints in the axles.

I just had both my axles swapped out for G2s D44 on my 2005 TJ. Rear was already built with 4.56 gears and Eaton lockers. Front had to be built with the same in the shop. My mechanic stated new axels were a great fit and easily installed. Not sure if this helps but thought I would mention my swaps. Here’s a few pics. I love my lil TJ!
