Curious why not?

It’s a factory car that has a small motor with a turbo

Myles

@Clint your claim makes no sense

It’s all about how you maintain a car and how you treat it. There is a guy with a c5 vette with 700k miles daily driver. Most people only think diesel can do such things. I believe up to 500k miles t had never even been apart

Clint

That is a N/A under powered LS1. The most consistent truck or car that was way over the 400k Mark was the 90’s F-150 with the straight 6.

Turbos have their own issue, they tend to go out faster than the motor.

I am guessing the question is based off just doing basic maintenance, and nothing being rebuilt. With our little motor just not going to happen.

Once you add boost to a small motor you run into issues, especially when you run a decent amount from the factory. Hence why if you buy a used VT they will tell you to stay away from the 2013 one.

Also since it is GDI and turbo you have to deal with a high compression ratio of 9.5:1 So you will run into knock at some point of owning one.

The formula for gasoline motors and reliability is Underpowered N/A. Small and boosted is not ideal.

@Clint cool story bro. There are plenty of cars that survive high mileage that are high compression and boosted. Back to my comment. It’s all in how you treat the Car. You may have some small issues but isn’t that expected in high mileage everyday cars

Right? My buddy had a Volvo with like 560k lol

Yup, auto industry got it wrong. All these manufacturers making “small motors with a turbo” are selling ticking time bombs I guess. ?

1
Jack

Nope…. at 35k miles my 13 VT had to have motor #2. I’m on motor #4 knock on wood,….it’s doing fine.

My Veloster is at 61,000 miles I’ve had the oil changed every 3,000 miles and any other maintenance that needed to be done but at 30,000 miles my third cylinder blew they replaced it and 30,000 miles later and only a year later it blows again and now they are denying me warranty

Becuz nav

I am a 44 year-old female driver. I have ALWAYS had my oil changed every 3k miles @the dealership and always had the maintenance done that is recommend. I usually have my grandson in the car with me so there for I don’t drive crazy or beat on my car at all. Yet….I am on motor #4 & turbo #2. I honestly think ALOT of it is the device dept techs aren’t properly trained and most are incompetent.

@Jack lemon laws don’t apply to your car? I’d be telling Hyundai to take it back..

0
Jack

Nope, we hired the Lemon Law group out of ALT, Ga. Lemon Law is anything under 32k miles and I was 1k miles over.

Outside of maintenance no and that goes for almost any car. But on the flip side if you drive it like a racecar it’s bound to have issues. My father drove a Mercury Villager Van well over 200,000 miles without a oil change he bought the car for $1000 to drive into NYC because he knew that it was going to get beat up. And sure enough the day the car stopped working was due to an accident.

Had a late model Jeep 500k+
86. 300 ZX turbo 300k+ (well, had 2) one less than 80k.. Both turbos from birth and in still working order..
Veloster turbo will last 200k+

Outside of people getting shitty luck with their VTs and NAVs ie; 13’ VTs with weaker internals than now & just duds…Maintenance really makes a difference lol..if you neglect something that could have easily been replaced by regular maintenance, than ya…

I really honestly don’t see vts making it past roughly 135-150k is where I think they will start to have catastrophic failures. Or where you’ll see interior break downs etc. But I do not see our cars making it to 200k. Especially with so many people having issues right out the gate or when they hit the 60-80k miles range

Nav or turbo they both will just depends how you take care of them and how yoi drive them…. So mine may make it to 100k if im lucky

I would guess that about the only thing outside of regular maintenance that would need to be done (or should be done) prior to 200k is a clutch and replace/rebuild the turbo.

If you take care of your car it will least

There’s plenty of 1.8t’s running strong with 200 and 300k I’m sure this 1.6t can hit 200 without issues.

If someone drives like an “ass knuckle” than their cars ability to last as such will be as such. Drive like an ass and your car won’t last..
Treat your car the best and outlast the rest…
At its simplest/finest definition/description possible.. “think doc think!”

Miatas are known to go well past 200k but mine needs a head gasket at 157k. I know someone that had a Honda Civic where the engine went out at 5k miles. She bought it new. I think the later VTs may last if well cared for, but for longevity the NAV is probably much better. Turbo cars have always been notorious for breaking sooner than NA cars. Anyone that is trying to dispute that, just do a quick Google search.

Every car has there lemons in the batch. But Honda’s are made to last period . Course turbo cars will always break down sooner then NA cars much more stuff is moving faster
